Bei 13Crowes handelt es sich um eine Band aus Schottland, die letzten September ihre erste EP „The Dividing Line“ via Homebound Records digital veröffentlicht hat. Darauf zu finden sind insgesamt 4 Tracks, die auf einiges hoffen lassen. Eine Band, die erst am Anfang steht und eine EP bei der man das Potential der Jungs innerhalb weniger Sekunden raushört. Ich bin auf jeden schon sehr gespannt, was man in Zukunft noch von den 5 Schotten hören wird.

Musikalisch haben sie das Rad vielleicht nicht unbedingt neu erfunden und dennoch lassen deren Melodien einen nicht los. Immer wieder verspürt man den Drang, auf die Play- bzw Repeat-Taste zu drücken. Es kommt einem alles so bekannt vor und dennoch ist alles so neu, anders und schön. Wie eine alte, eingerostete Freundschaft, die neu aufblüht. Es fühlt sich einfach gut und richtig an.
Cammy Black´s Stimme erinnert an so viele gute Musiker und hat zugleich eine ganz eigene Note.
Rau und markant, zugleich weich und energiegeladen. Die Jungs bieten eine gesunde Mischung aus Rock´n´Roll, Punk und Folk und sorgen zudem für einen catchy Sound.

Nächstes Jahr wird dann ihre erste LP (auch via Homebound Records) erscheinen. Davor werden 13Crowes aber zum ersten Mal die Clubs und Cafés in Deutschland bespielen.
Eine Premiere, die man sich nicht entgehen lassen sollte. So vielversprechend wie ihre EP könnten auch ihre Gigs werden. Moment. Könnten? Werden! Bestimmt. Ach findet´s doch selbst raus und fahrt hin!

Wer genau wie ich lieber eine CD in der Hand hält als Songs in digitaler Form auf der Festplatte zu speichern, für den lohnt sich ein Konzertbesuch doppelt, denn: auf der kommenden Tour durch Deutschland werden die Jungs die EP als CD mit im Gepäck haben!
Also: Auf zu den Gigs, die Jungs abfeiern und anschließend am Merch die „The Dividing Line“-Scheibe kaufen!

Ross (Gitarrist) hat sich für uns die Zeit genommen und einige Fragen zur anstehenden Tour, seiner Liebe zu The Gaslight Anthem und dem Anfang 2017 erscheinenden Album ausführlich beantwortet. Erfahrt welche Bands er gerade abfeiert und wie die Aufnahmen zum Album verliefen!

1. How would you introduce 13Crowes to people who haven´t heard you before?
I’d say we are a very upfront, honest band. What you hear, in our lyrics is from personal experiences and our music is there to compliment the lyrics, we don’t claim to be original or reinventing any genre, we just hope to write great songs that can be loved by fans of any style of music.

2. Soon you´ll be touring through Germany for the very first time. What do you expect?
I expect it to be fucking cold! But I’m excited, I’ve always wanted to come to Germany, we’ve heard such amazing things from other bands about how amazing the German people are for welcoming new bands and coming out to shows.

3. What do you like the most about playing live? What can we expect?
Personally I like to just let go and forget about anything else other than the music, to see reactions from people in the crowd.
You guys can expect it to be loud, hopefully you will love it and you can definitely expect some bad attempts at us speaking German!

4. It´s an open secret that you all like The Gaslight Anthem/Brian Fallon. What is so unique about them?
Oh it’s not even any form of a secret. I wouldn’t say it’s anything unique as such, for me personally, the first time I heard Gaslight, something inside me changed, it was like a huge moment for me. Something in the way they wrote music, the lyrics Brian wrote, the whole sound, it was everything I ever wanted to hear from a band and more.

5. What bands are you currently listening to?
At the moment I am listening to MakeWar, that band is incredible. Arliss Nancy are always on, there’s also a Scottish band called Cold Years who I absolutely love. They have a couple Ep’s out, newest one Death Chasers is brilliant.

6. 2017 your first LP will be released through Homebound Records. How were the recordings?
It’s been fun, we’ve recorded with one of our closest friends, Dave Miller, who is like the 6th member of the band. He’s invaluable to the whole process, and if something is shit, he tells you it’s shit. And that’s a very good thing! It makes you up your game.

7. How would you describe the new songs? Was there a special inspiration or subject for the lyrics?
I’d say the new songs are more of what we did for the EP, but better, catchier, more anthemic and more varied. We’ve some folk punk style, full on rock n roll songs and acoustic songs.
There’s only one inspiration for lyrics, and although i don’t write the lyrics, they are just love songs, about people that have been loved, lost, mourned or cared about.
And I think they are written in such a way that, they are relatable and people can take their own meaning from them

8. Talking about lyrics: What´s the best lyric you´ve ever heard and who´s it from?
I have two favourite lyrics, first is from The Backseat by Gaslight, “ if you never let me go, I will never let you down“.
And The Blues Mary, again by Mr Fallon, „I’d rather go than watch you leave“. That line kills me every time.
